House by the Sea

I've been working on this drawing for awhile. Not quite finished yet but getting close. It's a fictitious house that I dreamt about when I was in Iceland last year.

Baby Steps

The summer is always a challenging time to do post production work. I find it easy to go out and take a ton of photos but heading into the darkroom or sitting in front of the computer is an unappealing task when it's nice outside. Especially if you live in Banff and summer just really got going about two weeks ago.

As a result, I've decided to try to spend at least day a week on art work and spend the other days working my day job and indulging in my other passion- climbing. I always find the push/pull of life versus art a somewhat unwieldy problem to solve. I also find it really disheartening when people think that artists get a free ride in life - most of the artists I know are also some of the most hardworking/obsessed/ thrifty people that I know. I realize this sentence may come back as sounding like a backhanded compliment to myself, but really, I'm trying to figure out the work/life balance - it's a real mystery.

I'm trying to learn a thing or two from the plants in my garden.
