Just a quick post to promote a group exhibition that I will be part of this coming June in Edmonton. The show is titled National Portrait Gallery and is curated by a group of local Edmonton artists and curators. It will be shown at Latitude 53 in Edmonton.

There is already some good press happening for the project. Check the links below for a more detailed description of the show:

Lonely Hearts Left Behind

Banff is a transient town, with a constant flow of seasonal workers mixed in with the people who consider themselves local. I have a dumpster outside my apartment building that has supplied me with the odd lawn chair and objects I'm convinced I will use in some sort of 'art' project. It's also an interesting microcasm of the vibe of the town. These two images were taken in the last two weeks. The heart I found on a Saturday morning, the t.v and tree suggest remnants of Christmas circa 1982. Somehow they seem to paint an accurate portrait of Banff.

Shrubbery with Personality

I seem to be on this kick lately where I am taking portraits of bushes, shrubbery and trees that have some sort of anthropomorphic way about them. Not sure where it's leading. Here's one from my local neighbourhood.

Andreas Rutkauskas at Projex, Montreal

If you're in the Montreal neighbourhood this weekend, check out my friend Andreas' show at Projex, opening May 8th. Some of the work was produced in the Banff area and there are quite a number of interesting tales on Andreas' blog, the Virtual Hiker, in which he describes the sometimes hazardous process of getting the images. There are also musings on more recent rambles.
